  1. Great pictures. Garden of the Gods is one of the best kept secrets in the area, mostly because it’s not a national park, though its rock formations are almost comparable to those of Zion or Bryce National Parks.
I suspect the snow on Pikes Peak kept the road to the summit closed. That’s also worth a trip, although it’s worth mentioning that the road is unpaved in some portions, time at the summit may be limited if one is susceptible to altitude sickness, and the descent by car requires using low gear to keep one’s brakes from overheating (the mountain is not the best place for brake failure). Halfway down, there’s a checkpoint where a park ranger checks brake temperatures and orders people off the road to let their brakes cool if their temperatures are too high.

    • We have not made it to the summit of Pike’s Peak yet. The road is closed until June and is only open a couple of months. After reading your description – I am not sure that I want to go! Eek!! 😳
